The Five Sculpts updated June 2021
Love all the variations of face sculpts of Ruby Red Fashion Friends? Below are the five sculpts that make up this line, followed by a chart of all the poppets organized by sculpt. Will update the following information as needed!
The five sculpts used by Ruby Red Fashion Friends have been designed by Dianna Effner and Ruby Ho.
In order by debut date, first up is the "Sara" sculpt by Dianna Effner (DE #1). This sculpt was used by all three dolls that began the Ruby Red Fashion Friends line in November 2019--Sara, Bella, and Hanna.

The second sculpt to debut was the "Kayla" sculpt by Ruby Ho (RH #1). She was a surprise to collectors as no one knew how the line would develop over time. Kayla's vinyl was a deeper hue and RRFF's first doll of color and a welcome edition.

A third sculpt was introduced to the line in March/April 2021, created by Ruby Ho. The "Lila" sculpt, while similar to the first Ruby Ho's other sculpt Kayla, features a distinctively different eye shape.

Also a surprise for collectors, a new Dianna Effner sculpt, "Daisy," debuted in March 2021 with the limited edition Daisy doll. This sculpt by Effner was introduced to the RRFF fans after Effner's passing the previous winter, so the legacy is particularly poignant for many. Ruby Red has indicated this sculpt may be limited to special edition dolls only.

The "Luca" debuted in April 2021, the third Dianna Effner sculpt. Luca is a limited edition doll and the sculpt looks quite dapper used in a boy doll.

ReplyDeleteThey are different sculpts. To confirm they were truly different, I asked Ruby Red directly, and Luca is a new (3rd) sculpt that was designed by Dianna Effner. (I also have a hard time seeing the difference since we only have stock photos of Luca... it may be easier when someone posts side-by-side pictures of Daisy and Luca.)

ReplyDeleteMay I make an observation? I have written extensively on Dianna’s life for a recent convention and I am a long time collector of her Darlings on which many of the RRFF are based. Please note th following regarding the sculpts. And this informations is easily verified by going to diannaeffner.com:
ReplyDelete#1. Is the classic sculpt. Serene, pleasant. UNsmiling.
#2. This doll has “almond” eyes. Used for Asian characters and adapted to represent many cultures.
#3. Often referred to as the “smiling” sculpt. I believe the very first RRFF dolll used this sculpt.
