Whole World $$$ - Gabriela vs Tenney

With the summer release of new items for Gabriela and Tenney how do their Whole World price tags line up? When I looked at all the modern dolls released in 2017 (Contemporary Characters and GOTY) I was surprised...

I thought for sure Tenney'w Whole World would have the largest price tag but Gabriela's world is a bit more expensive. With the addition of Gabriela's Loft, her Chair & Ottoman, and her new Taking Flight Outfit, she takes top spot for the first time this year.

However, if we collapse Logan's world into Tenney's world, Tenney would come out on top.

I have to say, having the largest/most expensive world is not necessarily the best honors--personally I prefer much of Tenney's collection because of the uniqueness of her collection (no rehashed and recolored repeats).

For first time viewers, please note that "Whole World" calculations I use includes the 18" doll and the clothing and accessories made at that scale which the doll itself would be able to wear or use. A second note is since the "Noteable Earring" are used by both Gabriela and Tenney I did not include the price in either column.

Gabriela's new Whole World collage is included below. Will she receive more items before retiring?

And finally an updated GOTY chart. The downward trend is still evident but Gabriela is now in the middle of the pack with her added new items.

June Tunes: New Items for Tenney and Logan?

Will the summer release on June 22nd feature new outfits for Tenney and Logan?

I have been waiting forever for this sequined dress ensemble.

I like the sharp contrast of the faux velvet red jacket. Mix and match heaven.

The versatility of the red jacket becomes apparent when looking at the cover of Tenney's fourth book (not due out until September 26). Here we see how it can be used as mid-weight outer winter wear. The knit ca and pom are adorable and if AG doesn't make it I may have to search on Etsy for a talented yarnster.

Logan also looks to get a much needed wardrobe change. I love how grown up the outfit it, keeping more with the 14+ crowd.

June is looking good!

Tenney & Taylor: A Perfect Duo

Tenney's Accessories which features her poppet-sized guitar is amazing! AG teamed up with Taylor guitars and everyone wins.

Tenney's guitar is just too beautiful. The flowers and bird stencil design on the front of the guitar over the gorgeous shade of robin's egg blue is stunning. I could stare at and enjoy this lovely design forever.

I have the guitar propped up on the guitar/accessory stand from her Stage & Dressing Room set. The stand also works with her banjo (and her tambourine), so I bought a second stand from the secondary market so both my mini stringed instruments has a safe display option.

The wires are metallic and make a little plink when touched. The tuning pegs turn though do not tune the strings.

The three buttons each play a separate tune when pressed. I loved this guitar even before this amazing feature. The tunes are authentic and kudos to the artist and team who composed and chose this set of tunes for the guitar.

Batteries required! An on/off switch on the left back can help from accidental play, though each tune self-stops after playing its own tune.

The mini guitar by AG is $34, which is a fraction of what the girl-sized American Girl GS Mini by Taylor is selling for...

In all honesty, if I played the guitar or even just had aspirations to learn how to play the guitar, I would already be trying to figure out how to bring this gorgeous full-sized guitar home with me.

Or if I had an eight-year-old daughter (mine is grown) or an eight-year-old granddaughter (none yet) this would be on my spring fling list of gifts to buy.

Well done, AG and Taylor! I hope the sales are robust and we might see similar collaborations in the future.

While I must pass on the larger guitar, the poppet-sized guitar is home with us and well loved!

For all the worries and disappointments over the recent drop in the quality of construction and materials of the AG 18" dolls, this guitar (and its mate, the beautiful banjo) is amazing and showcases everything that originally made me an AG fanatic--excellent, realistic details and gorgeous design.

Hat's Adorable!

A new springtime dress and hat--too adorable.

Ana's dress is by Elite Doll World and her hat and necklace by American Girl. I give the dress by EDW an A+++ and the same for the hat and necklace!

This is also my first time fully setting up the Stage & Dressing Room and it makes a delightful backdrop for photography.

The necklace is simple but spot on. It coordinates perfectly with her bracelet.

This poppet has very striking and bright face paint coloring but I am becoming enamored by her unique look.

Happy girl!

The Backside of the Story

Remember the "B" side of vinyl albums?

With all the rolling changes in the cloth torso construction and design it is now the new normal to take a look at the backside of the dolls to note any changes.

For my Tenney and Logan dolls it was not so much the construction or design of the torso that changed but for one doll, the fabric itself.

My Tenney doll, bought on debut day, features the familiar classic cloth torso with backside horizontal darts for a rounded firm shape. Her cloth is the familiar course weave.

My Logan doll, also bought on debut day, features the classic torso design with horizontal darts--but the fabric seems slightly different. The end of the dart (the furthest point from the vertical center seam) actually puckers and is more pointy with the new fabric and gives Logan's side-cheeks a less rounded shape and transition around the side.

Upon inspection, the Logan fabric seems slicker and closer to a polyester feel as well as potentially thinner though I make no claims on the comparative strength or longevity between the two fabrics. (Note the color variation in the two photos is more due to camera lighting issues.)

Most noticeable is that instead of the clearly defined cross-hatched weave of Tenney's torso (left) Logan's weave is much tighter.

I did a quick comparison between Tenney and one of my more recent dolls, Samantha who was bought in 2013. Tenney's fabric weave and weight matches my Samantha doll's torso fabric. Logan's fabric is something new.

Late addition: Several people on other boards are identifying the new fabric being used as polished cotton broadcloth which is what OG seems to use. Consensus is that this fabric is less durable.

Tenney and Logan Homecoming

Fun at AGPSF at the Tenney and Logan debut!

And at the end of all of and returning with us home is... tah-dah!

I was surprised it all fit in the one America Girl shopping bag. The majority of the purchase today was Tenney and Logan and accessories, but Kit and Maryellen also each got a new outfit as well.

While Tenney was planned, I honestly did not make the final decision to purchase Logan until this morning as my husband and I drove together to the store. I was talking out loud in the car about the pros and cons of getting Logan, the two main set of issues being "I don't need a Logan. I am already buying a lot today. I could live with not getting a Logan." vs "Logan may not be around long. He's pretty special being the first boy. I think he would make a great manager (not canon, renamed, etc.) for Tenney's career."

So after all this babbling I turned to my husband as he was driving and asked him straight up if I should get Logan. He just smiled and chuckled and said yes, I probably should get Logan. Lol.

There are more outfits I hope to get for Tenney and Logan, especially the unreleased outfits seen in some of the American Girl marketing materials. Logan needs the bomber jacket and Tenney needs that black sequin dress!

Look at those cute faces! I can't wait to get them out of their boxes.

A Tenney Country Countdown!

Less than 12 hours until Tenney and Logan and Felicity GO LIVE!!

Wednesday 5:02PM CST

Wednesday 4:51PM CST

Early look at Kit's Mini Golf Dress--it comes in a real box with tissues! Thank you, Joy Coomer!

Wednesday 2:44PM CST

More stock images and scenes keep appearing!

I am curious to find out the price of Tenney's Teal Guitar. I was guessing $48, but then in AG's Live Presentation on Facebook yesterday it seemed the guitar also plays a recorded song and that has me mentally bumping up the price even higher.

Wednesday 2:40PM CST

Poppets & Posies plans to be at the American Girl Store tomorrow to enjoy the debut, take pictures, and melt her credit cards from overuse.

Keep tuned! Any and all late breaking news will be added to this post.

Tenney Mini Doll

I am not in love with the clothing quality other than the tee but the doll does look like she could be cute.

It looks to me looks like the skirt has been accidentally placed on backwards. The full sized doll has the pleats (which flare out the skirt) facing to the front and the flat side facing to the back but the mini seems to have that reversed. So the outfit may look marginally better if the skirt was put on properly.

I do like her face--though in the picture above her painted teeth are off-centered and the mini may be a factory second. However, I think a "factory first" Tenney mini will eventually make her way to our home.

Tenney & Me Matching Outfits?

This may just be a photoshoot advert of no consequence, but it looks like a matching Tenney Meet Outfit for Girls. Sweet!

Tenney's Spotlight Stage

Tenney's Spotlight Stage and Dressing Room is one of the last pieces to officially be revealed.

The Spotlight Stage and Dressing Room is rumored to retail for $225. The front is as pictured and the back of the set piece is a dressing room with furniture accessories--a leather-like plum colored arm chair and a matching vanity and mirror.

The stage walls are a tri-fold construction and the wooden stage floor either folds up or detaches for compact storage.

I have seen other leaked photos and is not clear if the microphone stand, amplifier, dark paisley green and plum dressing robe and other pieces are part of the bundled stage set, but it looks probable.

We'll know all in just 24 hours!

Banjo! Banjo! Banjo!

Banjo alert! I have been waiting forever for this one!

Honestly, I think it might be the banjo that tips me over into getting this collection. I can't quite explain it. I don't even play the banjo myself.

Tenney Country: More Outfits!

A flashy sequined dress and silver sandals for Tenney! (Must have!)

And Logan gets a leather-like bomber jacket!
